As usual, I’m taking a short break from Maryland On My Mind in August. This year, the reason is the 2010 election campaign. You may have heard that I’m running for Maryland House of Delegates in District 38B, which is all of Worcester County and part of Wicomico, on the Lower Eastern Shore. The first [...]

We’re looking forward to a classic July 4 weekend here in Ocean City, Maryland — nothing but sunshine and blue skies.
The heat wave broke earlier this week. Friday, we’re enjoying a sunny and mild morning, about 73 degrees right now. High Friday will be about 78. I imagine traffic will be heavy this afternoon and [...]

Frank Kratovil, Maryland’s District 1 congressman, is committed to keeping constituents informed about how busy he is, working for us on Capitol Hill.
Today’s mail brings another of Rep. Kratovil’s increasingly frequent “legislative updates.” This is the second legislative update during the month of May. Do you think there’s an election coming up?
The first May update [...]

Did you receive the interesting mailing from Rep. Frank Kratovil? It came in the mail on Saturday. Rep. Kratovil represents those of us who live in Maryland’s First Congressional District. He mailed us two classy fliers in late 2009, and one earlier this year. This fourth flier is the nicest one yet, in my opinion.
It’s [...]

Can Spring be finished in Maryland? No, but we’ve had some abnormally warm weather these past eight days.
Wednesday was hot throughout Maryland, with highs of 89 to 91 in Washington and Baltimore, and 87 on the Eastern Shore. Businesses had their AC on.
Late afternoon in Ocean City, it was 73 on the barrier island, chilly [...]

We’re almost to the end of the debate on health insurance reform. It hasn’t been pretty. It hasn’t been handled well by anyone — House, Senate, Democrats, Republicans, President Barack Obama.
President Obama was naive in trusting Congress to act responsibly. Chalk it up to inexperience. In return for the president’s trust, Congress acted like irresponsible [...]

Re-election Politics 101
Did you see the glossy flier from Rep. Frank Kratovil in your mailbox? It’s a classy mailer with eye-catching words: “Stopping Washington’s Blank Check.” Plus two full-color photos of your representative, Frank Kratovil.
Rep. Kratovil, a Democratic congressman running for re-election this year, highlights three issues:
“CUTTING GOVERNMENT SPENDING NOW”
“EARMARK REFORM”
“PAY-AS-YOU-GO BUDGETING”
I was impressed with [...]
